Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI) has made funds available to award 60-70 registration grants and about 40 hotel scholarships to students and early-career academics and professionals to defray costs for attending the 2023 Annual Meeting.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has also provided funds for a very limited number of financial need grants for attendees actively participating in the reconnaissance training workshop and exercise. Please note that the financial need-based grants are only available to U.S. citizens or those employed at U.S.-based institutions. If you meet the student and early-career grant criteria, apply for that grant instead.
Student and Early Career Registration Grant
Student and early career registration grants will cover the cost to attend all 4 days of the 2023AM, including all events listed below. Hotel scholarships will cover 2 room nights at the annual meeting hotel.
- Early Career Workshop on April 11
- Technical Program Day on April 12
- Reconnaissance Workshop on April 13
- Earthquake Field Exercise on April 14
Selection Criteria
The grants are intended for university students, early-career academics, and early career professionals. Students are defined as individuals who are enrolled full-time in a college or university at the time of the registration grant award application deadline (February 1). Early career academics are defined as assistant (tenure-track) professors, regardless of age. Early career professionals are defined as individuals who graduated after January 31, 2014.
The selection committee will judge applicants based on the following criteria:
- Active participation and/or interest in the 2023 EERI Annual Meeting (e.g., invited speaker or moderator, meeting committee volunteer work, etc).
- Interest in and planned attendance for all four meeting days, including both workshops.
- EERI membership and active participation with national EERI or a local EERI Student or Regional Chapter (if a local chapter exists).
- Quality of applicant's justification statement.

Financial Need Grant
These grants are intended for prospective attendees who demonstrate a need for financial support in order to attend the annual meeting and actively participate in the Reconnaissance Training Workshop and Exercise. They are available to U.S. citizens and employees of institutions located in the United States. Only a very limited number of these grants are available, so if you are a student or early-career academic or professional, please apply for that grant instead.
